The 10 Best Events in Berlin in June

In Berlin, June is the moment when the city finally comes alive—in the best possible way. The days are long, the nights are warm, and suddenly everything is happening at once: music in the streets, neighborhood festivals, open-air culture. Berlin no longer feels like a big city, but like a giant open-air festival.

What I especially love about June: You don’t need a plan. You go out—and automatically stumble upon an event. Still, there are, of course, highlights you should know about. Here are my 10 best events in June that truly define the Berlin summer.

1. Fête de la Musique (June 21)

On the longest day of the year, all of Berlin becomes a stage: bands, DJs, and street musicians play everywhere—for free and under the open sky. The atmosphere is relaxed, spontaneous, and often surprisingly good, especially in smaller streets or courtyards. For me, this is one of the most authentic Berlin moments of all.

2. Long Night of Science (June 6)

On this evening, universities, laboratories, and research institutions open their doors to showcase the work being done in Berlin. With a mix of experiments, lectures, and hands-on stations, the event offers a blend of education and hands-on experience. It’s especially exciting for anyone who’s curious and wants to take a peek behind the scenes.

3. ILA Berlin Air Show (June 10–14)

The ILA brings international aviation to Berlin—with air shows, hands-on technology, and massive aircraft to marvel at. Even if you’re not an aviation fan, the scale and energy of the exhibition are impressive. It’s an event you rarely experience in this form.

4. Berlin Book Festival (June 27–28)

Bebelplatz transforms into a massive open-air bookstore with readings, discussions, and a literary program. Amid publishers, authors, and curious visitors, a calm, inspiring atmosphere emerges right in the heart of the city. Perfect for a relaxing afternoon.

5. Kreuzberg Festival (June 26–28)

The former Bergmannstraße Festival is one of Berlin’s most charming neighborhood festivals. Live music, street food, and a diverse crowd make it a true summer classic. Here, you can really feel just how vibrant and diverse Berlin is.

6. Pankow Art Festival (June 13–14)

Art, music, and crafts come together in Schönhausen Palace Park. Amid the stalls, performances, and small stages, an almost village-like, relaxed atmosphere takes shape. Ideal for anyone looking to experience Berlin at a more leisurely pace.

7. Berlin Tennis Open (June 13–21)

International tennis stars compete on the historic grounds in Grunewald, bringing top-level sports to a summer setting. The combination of athletic excitement and a relaxed crowd makes this tournament particularly enjoyable. Well worth seeing, even for non-tennis fans.

8. Architecture Day (June 27–28)

This weekend, buildings that are normally off-limits open their doors—from modern residential projects to extraordinary office buildings. You’ll discover Berlin from a completely new perspective and suddenly understand how the city is evolving. Especially exciting for anyone interested in design and urban life.

9. Open Days at the Hamburger Bahnhof (June 12–14)

During these days, the Museum of Contemporary Art transforms into an open, vibrant cultural hub with free programs, guided tours, and events. Art feels less distant and much more accessible here than usual. A great introduction even for people who rarely visit museums.

10. Berlin Jazz Week (late June–early July)

For several days, Berlin becomes the jazz capital, with concerts in clubs, concert halls, and open-air venues. The range spans from classic jazz to experimental sounds. What’s especially nice: many concerts feel intimate, despite their world-class quality.

June in Berlin is fantastic

June shows Berlin just as you’d imagine it—open, creative, and full of energy. Between major festivals and small, serendipitous discoveries, the month unfolds in a way that can never be fully planned—and that’s exactly what makes it so special. If you want to understand Berlin in the summer, start in June.
