Berlin's Crypto Scene in 2025
Berlin has long been more than just a vibrant metropolis for art, music, and start-ups. In recent years, the capital has also established itself as a hub for blockchain, Web3, and cryptocurrencies. What is striking is the balancing act between large international conferences with big tech participation and the small, down-to-earth scene that organizes itself in meetups, crypto parties, or regulars' tables. While the former attract investors, media, and international speakers, the latter offer low-threshold access for interested parties who want to share their knowledge or take their first steps in the crypto world. Together, this creates an ecosystem that makes Berlin unique: visible on the global stage, rooted in local communities.
The big crypto events in Berlin
Anyone who was in Berlin in the summer of 2025 could hardly have missed Berlin Blockchain Week. Over more than two weeks in the summer, numerous conferences, panels, and side events took place – decentralized and deliberately community-driven. The organizers' goal is to bring order to the often noisy and confusing market and focus on education, exchange, and inclusivity. BBW is therefore not only an industry gathering, but also a reaffirmation: Berlin is a hotspot of the European Web3 scene and wants to visibly defend this role.
A highlight of the BBW was the LUKSO Hub, which combined creative and technical sessions. In addition to technical deep dives on smart contracts and token standards, the program included rooftop events, networking sessions, and art formats. It is precisely this combination of technology and culture that makes Berlin attractive to many international guests.
DappCon 2025 also played a central role. In June, over 900 developers, founders, and investors met at Radialsystem to exchange ideas about decentralized applications, Ethereum ecosystems, and privacy technologies. Workshops and discussion panels on scalability, DeFi, and infrastructure made the conference a must-attend event for anyone working on the technical development of blockchain.
Such large-scale events not only attract experts from all over the world, but also act as a bridge to the established financial and technology scene. Sponsors from the big tech world and investors use Berlin as a showcase. This makes the city visible not only as a creative location, but also as a serious financial and technology hub. Whether it's coin launch events where new tokens are presented and discussed or classic developer conferences, Berlin provides the stage where innovation and capital meet.
Crypto parties and meetups
Away from the big stage, Berlin's crypto scene thrives on small, regular events that are much more accessible and immediate. One example is the CryptoParties, which have been an integral part of Berlin's digital culture for years. Contrary to what the name suggests, these events are not about partying, but about learning: topics such as encryption, anonymous communication, and protection against tracking are on the agenda. On September 28, 2025, for example, a CryptoParty will take place at the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek in Kreuzberg, followed by FLINTA* CryptoParties at the Aquarium on Skalitzer Straße in October and December.
There is also a lively meetup culture. Groups such as Bitcoin Lab Berlin organize workshops for beginners, regulars' tables, and sessions on Lightning wallets. Web3 communities also meet at the w3.hub in Kreuzberg to present new projects, hold panels, or simply network. The Blockchain Community Meetup Berlin also regularly hosts discussion evenings, covering topics such as artificial intelligence and blockchain as well as practical questions of project development.
These local formats are usually free or very inexpensive, deliberately open to people without prior knowledge, and thus create access that is not always available at large conferences. In this way, they contribute to the democratization of knowledge and lower the threshold for engaging with digital self-determination, cryptocurrencies, or Web3 applications.
Interfaces and mutual reinforcement
It is exciting to see how both levels complement each other. Developers who present their first projects at meetups can find themselves on the international stage at large conferences months later. Community formats such as CryptoParties provide the foundations on which start-ups or research projects are later built. Conversely, large events benefit from Berlin's active scene, which not only consumes but also experiments, tests, and provides new impetus.
Culturally, too, the boundaries are blurring: rooftop sessions and art formats during Berlin Blockchain Week are reminiscent of the city's open, creative club and cultural scene. This creates an environment that brings together expertise and creativity—a hallmark of Berlin that distinguishes the city from other crypto locations such as Frankfurt or Zurich.
The future of the crypto scene in Berlin lies in this balancing act. On the one hand, large conferences are needed to maintain international visibility, attract investors and partners, and position the capital as a serious location for Web3 and blockchain. On the other hand, the scene thrives on small, accessible formats that spread knowledge, promote diversity, and make it easier to get started.
