The 10 Best Events in Berlin in August

Berlin's summer is at its best in August: the city is full of life, the nights are balmy, the parks are full - and the cultural program is literally exploding. Between street parties, high culture, political protest and pistachio festivals, there is something for every mood.

This month, there are more good events than days off. That's why I've picked out the 10 best events in August 2025. Not just the big highlights, but also a few insider tips that you might not have had on your radar yet.

#1. Dance in August (August 13-30)

Berlin's biggest international dance festival. Over the course of two weeks, choreographers from all over the world present their latest pieces - from radically modern to poetically playful.

Here, dance doesn't feel like art “from above”, but lively, political and sometimes really wild. I love the shows at HAU1 - a venerable venue with a lot of Berlin history.

Personal tip: Take a festival pass day ticket and let yourself drift - even smaller productions in HAU3 often surprise the most.

2. Berlin Circus Festival (July 30 - August 10)

Contemporary circus on Tempelhofer Feld - no clowns and no animals, but acrobatics, theater, poetry and music in large tents under the open sky.

For me, it's one of the most magical events of the summer. I come back every year. It's especially beautiful at sunset, when the lights come on and you're suddenly somewhere completely different in the middle of the city.

Recommendation: Have a picnic in the park beforehand, then get into the tent - it creates a really nice atmosphere.

3. Young Euro Classic (August 1-17)

Young orchestras from Europe (and beyond) play in the venerable Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt. Mostly classical pieces, but often with a modern interpretation.

It's amazing how professionally these young musicians perform. Goosebump moments guaranteed - and without any snobbish concert atmosphere.

Recommendation: Come early and enjoy the Gendarmenmarkt outside - one of the most beautiful squares in the city. And: there are cheap tickets, even for those who decide spontaneously!

4. Berlin Board Game Con (August 1-3)

A paradise for game fans - try out new board games, tournaments, flea market, workshops and huge gaming areas in the Estrel Hotel.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, but the atmosphere here is so open and warm that you automatically get into the gaming flow.

Recommendation: Ideal for groups of friends or as a date idea. Especially recommended: the indie game area, where you can discover real gems.

5. Hemp Parade (August 9)

The traditional demo for legalization and cannabis education - with political speeches, loud music and colourful floats.

Politically important and a great celebration at the same time. I think it's good that this demo promotes dialog - and it's definitely a piece of Berlin subculture.

Recommendation: It's worth going along, even if you don't smoke weed. The parade usually ends with a relaxed stage and live music at the Brandenburg Gate.

6. LesBiSchwules Parkfest (August 9)

The queer community meets for a picnic in Volkspark Friedrichshain, with a music stage, information stands, performances and lots of heart.

Warm-hearted, unpretentious and political - a festival that really brings the community to life. For me, one of the most beautiful non-commercial events.

Recommendation: Bring a blanket and snacks, come with open ears and eyes - it's easy to get into conversation.

7. Open Day of the Federal Government (August 23-24)

Chancellery, ministries, Foreign Office - once a year the houses of power open their doors.

I was surprised at how accessible and open the whole thing is. You learn a lot about what goes on behind the scenes - and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Recommendation: Get there early, especially at the Chancellery - there are often long queues. And entering the press conference rooms feels a bit cool.

8. Pistachio Street Food Festival (August 23-24)

The first Berlin food festival dedicated entirely to pistachios. From pistachio pizza to ice cream, liqueur, falafel - everything is green.

I was skeptical at first - but wow. If you love pistachios, you'll be in heaven here. And all with a Berlin street food vibe.

Recommendation: Come with an empty stomach! And bring someone to share with you - that way you can try more.

9. Spandau Old Town Festival (August 28-31)

Celebrate in the historic old town of Spandau - with wine stands, music, market stalls and a children's program.

Familiar, cozy and somehow like a journey into the past. Not so “hip”, but warm.

Recommendation: Ideal for a relaxed afternoon - or as an excursion with the family. It doesn't take long to get out of the city on the S-Bahn.

10. Berlin Beer Week (August 29 - September 6)

Craft beer without end - with tap takeovers, brewery tours, beer tastings and a festival on the RAW grounds.

Cheers to the diversity of beer! The atmosphere is relaxed, the beers surprising - and it's not just for hipsters.

Recommendation: Go to a tasting with brewers - you'll hear exciting stories about every beer. And: drink lots of water!

Bonus: Long Night of the Museums (August 30)

Over 70 museums are open until 2 a.m., with guided tours, concerts and surprises.

I love wandering through the Museum Island when everything is lit up. Berlin then feels like one big stage.

Recommendation: Plan a route beforehand - otherwise it's easy to get lost in the overload. The “Altes Museum + Pergamon + live music” combo was my highlight last year.

August in Berlin: a month full of events

August in Berlin is like a kaleidoscope: whether you're looking for art, politics, good food or just a chilled-out atmosphere - you'll find your experience. My personal favorite this year: the Circus Festival, because it never fails to move me. But the Pistachio Festival is also at the top of my list this year. I mean: pistachio pizza!

But it's nice to get out and go to an event, a festival or an open-air cinema in Berlin in August.
