Why it's worth visiting the Futurium: 5 reasons

Berlin has many museums, but none like the Futurium. It's a place that offers you more than just marveling at the past - it's about actively shaping the future. Interactive, inspiring and accessible to all ages, Futurium manages to stand out from traditional museums and offer a space for creativity and curiosity, but what exactly makes Futurium so unique?

Here are five reasons why it's worth a visit:

1. A home for all future enthusiasts

The Futurium is more than just another architectural highlight in the government district. It is a place where science, art and society come together. Here you can lose yourself in topics that fall somewhere between science fiction and science fact: Artificial intelligence, sustainable building, urban agriculture. Whether you are a tech nerd, a bio-freak or just a curious mind, everyone will find a new question here - or even an answer.

"Many everyday topics with ideas to solve problems of the future".

Everything is designed not just to inform you, but to involve you. Whether you are controlling robots, navigating through digital cityscapes or discovering ideas for a more sustainable world - the exhibits challenge you to join in, think and become part of the future yourself. "Lots to touch and try out", says one review, "designed to be totally interactive." Here you are not just a spectator, but an actor.

2. The exhibition as a playground for visionaries

Imagine you could walk through the minds of futurologists and immerse yourself in their craziest ideas. The permanent exhibition at Futurium makes this possible. It is interactive, multi-sensory and pretty crazy. Instead of dusty showcases and dry display boards, there are installations that invite you to touch, try out and, above all, think. Do you want to see what a city looks like that manages completely without waste? Or how a forest grows in a high-rise building? Go there, try it out and imagine what it would be like if it wasn't a utopia.

3. The Futurium Lab - your field of experimentation

The Futurium is more than just a museum. It is a place of experience! Everyone, young and old, will find something exciting, even children.

And for all those who not only want to think, but also do, there is the Futurium Lab. Here you can tinker, solder and program - and often for free! Workshops and hands-on formats that you would otherwise only find in hip co-working spaces or expensive courses are accessible to everyone here. From 3D printing and robot building to bio-hacking - if you invest a little time, you'll come away with new knowledge and maybe even a small, self-made innovation for the future. The exhibition also provides insights into modern smart home technologies.

4. The place for dialog about our future

One thing is clear: our future will not just happen. It is something that we have to shape together. The Futurium promotes precisely this spirit. Discussions, panels and talks take place here regularly, where bright minds - from scientists and activists to visionaries - discuss the most burning issues of our time. And it's not just about dry technical discussions, but about dialog with all of us. Do you have questions or an opinion? Bring them along. We listen here.

5. An exciting building that is itself a statement

Last but not least: the Futurium itself. Even from the outside, the building is a real eye-catcher - angular, futuristic, somehow like something from a dystopian vision of the future, which nevertheless also exudes hope. The architecture is not just for show, but part of the concept: energy efficiency, sustainability, digital innovations - everything is already built in. So it's worth a visit for the aesthetics alone and the architectural masterpiece that rises up here between the Spree and the main railway station.

Our tips

  • Take your time! "Unfortunately, we haven't planned enough time" is a common realization. The exhibition is extensive, profound and invites you to linger. "It should be at least two hours, rather more", is recommended.
  • Enjoy the view over Berlin from the roof terrace. From the roof terrace you have a very good view in all directions. There is even a small café at the top, perfect for a break at the end of your visit.

The Futurium is not a place that brags about its answers, but one that asks the right questions. A place that doesn't tell us what the future will look like, but encourages us to shape it ourselves. A playground for anyone who thinks in terms of possibilities - and who doesn't like to do that? So the next time you're in Berlin and not only want to immerse yourself in the city's past, but also set foot in the future, head to the Futurium.
