Home to Berlin's oldest Biergarten as well as the famous Mauerpark and its flea market, with its pretty typical Berlin cafés and old breweries, Prenzlauer Berg is one of the most popular and pleasant districts of the German capital. Check out our selection of the 10 best hostels in Prenzlauer Berg that will allow you to live in Berlin (almost) like a real Berliner!

The rooms offer views of the garden or the inner courtyard. Snacks are available throughout the day, and in summer you can relax on the south-facing terrace or play billiards and table tennis. In winter you can enjoy a drink by the fireplace - the bar serves a nice selection of homemade rum. The hostel also has single rooms for 1 or 2 people.

Formerly known as the Alcatraz Hotel, the youth hostel has everything a backpacker could wish for for a great stay in Berlin: inexpensive, well-connected to public transport (only a few minutes' walk from the underground U2 Eberswalder Str.), clean, individually furnished, fully equipped kitchen, and indoor and outdoor communal areas that encourage socialising. The hostel is housed in a simple, almost family-friendly building. A kitchen is available for your convenience and a continental breakfast is served between 7:30 and 12:30 every day (at an additional charge). Men and women benefit from separate shared bathrooms. 7. Generator: the cheapest hostel in Prenzlauer Berg

The Generator chain is a definite success with backpackers all over the world and for good reason: cheap, sleek and modern design, good international atmosphere and above all the concept adapts to the premises. Here, the hostel serves typical Berlin dishes at community dinners (ideal for meetings) such as Currywurst or Schnitzel! The common lounge provides table football and billiards. The hostel bar serves cocktails to be enjoyed comfortably seated in a deckchair. The only drawback is the location (not much nearby but the tram or S-Bahn station is less than a minute's walk away).

The personal atmosphere will make you feel at home. Upon arrival, guests receive extensive information about Berlin - public transport, sightseeing, shopping, restaurants and nightlife. Located between Prenzlauer Berg and Wedding, Inn-Berlin is just outside the Ring Road. Take it if you can't find anything else or if prices compensate for the location.

9. Corner Hostel: a simple and comfortable youth hostel

Aptly named, the hostel is "just around the corner" - situated in the north of Prenzlauer Berg, in a relatively quiet location, you'll need to walk a little and then take the tram to the centre of the area. As far as the decoration is concerned, the furniture is modern and basic, but has a thematic decoration depending on the room - however very sober. The hostel also has a shared kitchen.

10. Hotel Big mama: a hostel with private beach

Slightly off-centre, Big Mama offers all kinds of accommodation: apartment, single room, dormitory for 4 or 6 people (enough to meet lots of people from different backgrounds and for different purposes) and the service is very good - service as in a hotel (cleanliness, staff very available) but in the relaxed atmosphere of a youth hostel (activities, happy hours, games, ...). The rooms are clean and decorated in a modern style. Taking advantage of being slightly out of the city, the establishment has even set up a small private beach. However, you are still 600 metres from the Osloer Straße U-Bahn station, which provides direct access to Berlin city centre in 10 minutes. Bars and restaurants are less than 10 minutes' walk away.
