The 12 Best Mexican Restaurants in Berlin

For a long time, Berlin was a bit of a wasteland when it came to Mexican food—canned corn and bland Tex-Mex were the norm. But in recent years, things have turned around. As someone who was already searching for a real tortilla in this city 20 years ago, I can say: We are now living in the golden age of Berlin tacos.

Here are the 12 best Mexican restaurants in Berlin, from authentic street food stalls to chic dinner spots.

1. Taqueria El Oso (Prenzlauer Berg)

If you catch the scent of marinated pork and fresh pineapple, you’ve found the right spot at Markthalle Pfefferberg. Here stands one of the city’s best “trompos” (vertical rotisserie spits). The meat for the tacos al pastor is so tender it brings tears to your eyes—from happiness, not from the chilies.
Our recommendation: Tacos al Pastor and Tacos de Chorizo.
Address: Schönhauser Allee 176, 10119 Berlin

2. Maria Bonita (Prenzlauer Berg)

A true institution. Long before “authentic” became a buzzword, Maria Bonita was already setting the standard in the Danziger Kiez. It’s cramped, it’s loud, and the food is damn good. This isn’t about fancy frills, but about the perfect bite.
Our recommendation: Fish tacos and the legendary guacamole.
Address: Danziger Str. 33, 10435 Berlin

3. Sabor a mí (Kreuzberg)

If you’re looking for authentic Mexican home cooking, you can’t miss this gem near Görlitzer Park. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, almost as if you were sitting in the kitchen with a Mexican abuela. The sauces pack a serious punch!
Our recommendation: Enchiladas verdes and tamales (if available).
Address: Wiener Straße 51, 10999 Berlin

4. Sandunga Berlin (Wedding)

Wedding is on the rise, and Sandunga is the best proof of that. Here, the focus is on cuisine from Oaxaca. That means: mole! This complex, dark sauce is an art form in itself, and here they’ve mastered the technique perfectly.
Our recommendation: Enmoladas (tortillas in mole sauce) and a glass of mezcal.
Address: Gerichtstraße 47, 13347 Berlin

5. Chaparro (Kreuzberg)

A laid-back spot near Schlesisches Tor that’s perfect for a quick lunch or pre-drinks in the evening. The portions are generous, the staff is super quick, and the homemade salsas are in a league of their own.
Our recommendation: Tacos de Carnitas and the quesadillas with cactus (nopales).
Address: Wiener Straße 14a, 10999 Berlin

6. Tortilleria Mexa (Friedrichshain)

Here, craftsmanship is a top priority. The highlight: they make their own tortillas from real cornmeal (masa)—you can often even hear the machines running. It doesn’t get any fresher than this. You can taste it in every single taco.
Our recommendation: Taco Campechano and the Tacos de Suadero.
Address: Boxhagener Str. 50, 10245 Berlin

7. Tin Tan (Schöneberg)

Colorful, lively, and with a fantastic selection. Tin Tan brings a touch of joie de vivre to the Schöneberg neighborhood. The variety of fillings, in particular, appeals to both meat lovers and vegetarians.
Our recommendation: Tacos de Tinga Pollo and the vegetarian hibiscus tacos.
Address: Belziger Str. 34, 10823 Berlin

8. Club del Taco (Neukölln)

You’ll find this stylish spot on Weserstraße. It’s the perfect blend of bar and taqueria. The tacos are given a modern twist but never lose sight of tradition. A great place for long evenings with friends.
Our recommendation: Tacos de Baja Fish and the Mezcal Mule.
Address: Weserstraße 211, 12047 Berlin

9. Agüevo (Mitte)

If you’re out and about in Mitte and in the mood for a bit more comfort, Agüevo is the place for you. The decor is chic, the service attentive, and the menu offers a great cross-section of Mexican cuisine, beyond the usual street food classics.
Our recommendation: Ceviche Mexicano and Pato con Mole (duck with mole sauce).
Address: Wühlischstraße 12, 10245 Berlin (Second location in Mitte: Rosenthaler Str. 69)

10. Oh la Queca (Neukölln)

The name says it all: Here, everything revolves around quesadillas (quecas). But forget those bland cheese-filled flatbreads from the supermarket. Here, they’re served with blue corn tortillas and exciting fillings like squash blossoms.
Our recommendation: Quesadilla with Flor de Calabaza (squash blossom) and gringas.
Address: Reuterstraße 36, 12047 Berlin

11. Cintli (Kreuzberg)

Cintli is more than just a restaurant; it’s a tribute to corn. The tortillas are made using the traditional nixtamalization process. The result is a flavor you rarely find in Berlin. A mecca for tortilla purists.
Our recommendation: Blue corn tacos and the homemade horchata.
Address: Schwiebusser Str. 2, 10965 Berlin

12. Taqueria El Amigo (Mitte)

Tucked away in the charming courtyard of the ACUD art center, Taqueria El Amigo is a true hidden gem for street food purists. From a blue food truck, the team serves up tacos that are uncompromisingly authentic. In the relaxed, alternative atmosphere of the courtyard, the handmade delicacies taste twice as good. It’s the perfect spot for a quick but high-quality lunch or a snack before catching a movie at ACUD—unpretentious, lively, and a cut above the rest in terms of flavor.
Our recommendation: The Tacos Al Pastor (straight off the skewer) and the homemade salsas, which pack a serious punch.
Address: Veteranenstraße 21 (in the ACUD courtyard), 10119 Berlin

Berlin has finally learned that Mexican food is more than just chili con carne. So, grab your friends and try out a few of these excellent Mexican restaurants!
