Berlin Tegel Airport is much closer to Berlin city center than Schoenefeld Airport. The distance from Tegel airport to Hauptbahnhof (main train station) is only 7 km and the journey takes 20 minutes by taxi and 25 minutes by bus. Here is all the information you need to get from Tegel airport to downtown Berlin by bus, metro or taxi.

The bus ride from Tegel airport to the city center (20-25 min, 2,80€)

The only public transport available at Tegel Airport is the bus. There is no subway station.

To get from the airport to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)

The TXL bus is direct and the journey takes exactly 28 minutes. It leaves on average every 6 minutes. The TXL bus acts as a shuttle bus connecting the city center to Tegel airport. It also stops at the S-Bahn Beusselstraße on the Ring-Bahn which goes around the city, which is convenient if you want to reach the east, west or south of the city in less than 30 minutes.

To go from the airport to Potsdamer Platz

Take the TXL bus to Hauptbahnhof and then the M41 or M85 bus to Potsdamer Platz / Voßstraße. It takes a total of 35 minutes to get there.

To go from the airport to Alexanderplatz or Friedrichstrasse

Take the TXL bus to Hauptbahnhof and then take the S-Bahn S3, S5, S7 or S9 to Friedrichstr. or Alexanderplatz. Friedrichstraße is located 1 metro station from Hauptbahnhof and Alexanderplatz 2 stations away. It takes 40 minutes to get there.

Another possibility (but not as pleasant) is to take bus 128 from Tegel airport and get off at Franz-Neumann-Platz (Am Schäfersee). Then take the U8 metro line and get off at Alexanderplatz station.

To go from the airport to Zoologischer Garten (Zoo) or Kurfürstendamm

Take the X9 which will take you directly to Zoologischer Garten in 21 minutes. It leaves every 10 minutes

To reach Kurfürstendamm (from number 50)

Take the X9 to Jakob-Kaiser-Platz, then the U7 metro and get off at Adenauer Platz.

What are the bus schedules? The first TXL bus leaves at 4:30 am and the last at 12:30 am. It is then replaced by the M21 bus which runs all night long.

Ticket: Zone AB
Price: 2,80€

What you should know: You can buy your ticket directly on the bus or at the automatic ticket machine located just at the bus stop. Be careful because the machines do not accept VISA cards! (only MAESTRO cards) The same applies to the metro and most places in Berlin.

Transportation to Berlin city centre by taxi from Tegel airport (20-25 min, 20€) - or by Uber

Taxis are located just outside the terminal and will allow you to reach the city centre in 20 minutes, usually for 20 to 25€. Bring cash as they do not accept Visa cards. If you have children, ask the person in charge of managing the taxi line, he will bring you a taxi with a baby seat.

Our tip: Write the name of the street you want to go to because German names are sometimes difficult to pronounce (and to understand for your interlocutors).

If you travel with EasyJet, Eurowings, Air France, Ryanair, Lufthansa, Germanwings airlines, chances are you will arrive at Tegel airport.
